Maple Syrup Turkey Meatloaf is my new favorite way of making meatloaf!

My husband, Kyler, started a new job this week because he is starting school on Tuesday, so this means that I will be eating alone 5 x a week… This will be hard for us, but on the tiny plus side, this means that I can cook whatever I want without needing to accommodate my picky eater. 😉

Thursdays night was his first shift and that gave me the perfect opportunity to try a turkey meatloaf recipe! I found a low-carb recipe on Pinterest that seemed promising, but after a short while I decided to simply alter my usual meatloaf recipe and substitute any sort of sugar for sugar free maple syrup. It was delicious- so delicious that I am sharing this with you ASAP!

Maple Syrup Turkey Meatloaf Recipe

Ingredients  for Turkey Meatloaf

  • 1 pkg ground turkey- I used Jennie-O turkey, but I usually buy our ground turkey at Costco since discovering the benefit of buying that as a bulk item.
  • 1/3 cup Italian style bread crumbs or other flavor of choice
  • 2 Tbs ketchup- the original recipe that I found called for sugar free ketchup. I did not have that so I went ahead and did my own thing.
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce- 1 1/2 for the ketchup/syrup mix and 1/2 tsp for the ground turkey
  • 1 tbs sugar free maple syrup- give or take a little bit.
  • 1 egg- even though this wasn’t in the recipe I found, I thought maybe the turkey would need a little help preventing it to dry out.

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl: combine ground turkey, 1/2 TBS ketchup, 1/3 cup Italian Style breadcrumbs, 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce and egg. Mix well.
  • Rest on a baking sheet with silicone baking mat. Parchment paper will work, though the silicone mat helps a lot for Step 6.
  • In a small bowl or serving dish, combine 1 1/2 TBS ketchup, 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce, and the sugar free maple syrup. Stir well with a small spoon, set aside.
  • Using the silicone baking mat, shape the ground turkey into a loaf: Take one side of the baking mat and roll it over towards the other side; do the same for the other side and roll the tube from side to side, forming a shapely loaf.

  • Sprinkle Italian Style bread crumbs on the top of the loaf and pat into place
  • Using a silicone cooking brush, slather the ketchup/maple syrup mix all over the top of the loaf. Some parts will fall onto the side- that’s okay. Just wipe it off before you bake the loaf
  • Bake at 425 degrees for at least 35 minutes. You may need to add an additional 10 minutes to make sure the internal temp is at least 165 degrees. Unlike ground beef meatloaf, the turkey needs to be at least 165 degrees because it is poultry.
  • When I logged this in my Fitbit app, I was happily able to log in 21 g protein! I approximate that the total carbs in this main course is 30 g **for the whole loaf!

Enjoy this turkey meatloaf with any of these side dishes that cost $3 or less.
