My green smoothie recipe is one of the better ways I keep my migraines at bay. As many of you returning Followers know, I also keep to a low carb diet and since December 2020 (and it’s June 2021 now), I am pretty sure I can count less than 10 migraines that have been triggered by my epilepsy.
About 2 years ago, I came to my neurologist asking for ideas about how to manage my migraines. We discussed magnesium and Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) supplements. I took them for a short while but as I’m not a huge fan of taking any more pills in 1 day than I have to, I started doing Pinterest Research about how to find sources of magnesium and Riboflavin(B2) in food. In addition to loathing taking any more pills than I have to in a day, I don’t like spending my money on bottles of pills every month. If I just change my diet and choose foods that have mg and B2, that cuts on my monthly expenses. I came up with the list below in the table using infographics on Pinterest- you can see the saved graphics at the bottom of this post.
10 Sources of Magnesium and Riboflavin
Magnesium | Riboflavin |
---|---|
Spinach | Beef |
Sunflower Seeds | Tofu |
Almonds | Low Fat Milk |
Avocados | Salmon |
Quinoa | Mushrooms |
Black Beans | Lean Pork Chops |
Dark Chocolate | Spinach |
Pepitas | Almonds |
Bananas | Avocados |
Salmon | Eggs |
Notice the bolded items in that table? I formatted that because I wanted to show you that as luck would have it, you can overlap ingredients such as bananas, avocados and spinach to make your green smoothie!

Finals Thoughts about Green Smoothies and Smoothie Recipes
The other migraines that happen throughout the month are triggered by my Cycle and I am going to be trying out Cycle Synching really soon. Last month, I followed the last 2 weeks to the recommended diet, and it really eliminated my ‘period flu’ symptoms. I found this article to be extremely useful and I hope you come back to this blog to read some of the recipes and meal planning that I am going to make and do to combat “period flu” and improve my overall health.
I found these on Pinterest a long, long time ago and I wish I could provide links to these websites. But I saved these infographics to my phone and keep them as a guide for how to find naturally occurring protein, magnesium and riboflavin. I often include as many as possible to make my green smoothie jam packed with goodness.
